Grounding MV EFE MURAT

On Saturday 23rd February 2019 the MV EFE MURAT grounded on a breakwater of Pane e Pomodoro beach at  Bari (Italy) after she encountered bad weather conditions. For safety purposes, the crew abandoned the casualty at a later stage.

Marine Masters were hired to act as Salvage Master.

Damages

The casualty was resting with her starboard side against the stones and suffered several damages in her hull as she was pushed to the shallow waters by strong winds and rough sea.

As a result of the sea water ingress, Cargo Hold No. 2, Double Bottom Water Ballast Tanks Stbd, Ps 2 and 3, and Engine Room compartments were flooded.

Loaded with salvage and oil recovery equipment, the TUG/OIL REC ship PANTOKRATOR arrived on site.

Refloat operation

On 25th of February, the salvage team performed a survey on-board the casualty to determine the damage and obtain the necessary information to provide the Port Authorities with a bunkers removal plan. Subsequently, the bunkers removal operation started on 1st March.

On the 10th of march the Tug/OIL REC vessel PLATYTERA arrived onsite to assist with refloat operation.

On 11th of March the casualty successfully refloated from the rocks and moored on a berth in Bari port.
